Wooooooooo! Welcome to the Dominican Republic! The “Dom Rep” is the 2nd largest country in the Caribbean and is thereby a perfect place to have a destination wedding. BUT only if you like white beaches, palm trees jetting out of the sand, blue-green ocean, drinks made with coconut milk, stuff like that. In the least, that makes it a great place for Hoffmann. Sign me up.![]()
The bride and groom: Sidney and Ashley are from Virginia and chose the Dominican Republic for a very practical reason – most of Sidney’s relatives are from neighboring Haiti! Since Virginia is a short plane flight to the Dom Rep, it is not difficult for the mainlanders to get there. So did I meet them? Well, I actually photographed Sidney and Ashley’s engagement pictures all the way over in Manhattan Beach, California (where Ashley hails). That is when I planted the first seed – “Who is going to photograph your wedding in Punta Cana?” hahah.
The resort they chose is the beautiful Punta Cana Resort – which includes a couple golf courses, the beautiful Tortuga Bay Resort and the Punta Cana Hotel. From their website, “With two vibrant hotels located on miles of private beach; the exclusive AAA Five Diamond awarded Tortuga Bay Hotel designed by Oscar de la Renta offers an intimate setting within a Villa environment while the newly refurbished PUNTACANA Hotel provides understated value. We have options to fit every desire.” I agree 100%.
Ashley got ready at the Punta Cana hotel:

The ceremony was over at the Tortuga Bay resort, which is walking distance down the beach. I found Sidney holding up a palm tree . . .

The reception was held poolside at the Tortuga Bay resort and was a perfect night – warm air, bare feet, pina coladas, etc.

The Dominican Republic is also known for is it’s rum and cigars. I found the following items in the honeymoon suite, waiting for the bride and groom to come back . . .
Thank you Ashley and Sidney! What a wonderful time in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic! SO beautiful . . .
